When Dr. Lee learned his name, he became known for his discovery and inventions in botanical books. Dr. Jelvin F. J. Lee, (1859-1889), born in Charleston, gave numerous scientific and decorative gifts of his own until that day he died in St. Charles, Louisiana. According to his biography, he is best known for his experiments which he began, though his contributions have been eclipsed by others. In an 1890 letter, he expresses some appreciation for the "excellent efforts by our physicians to bring forth the best discoveries and inventions in botanical matter." Another letter described the efforts of Dr. Lee and his family. In 1890 H.H. J. Lee married Mary D. and had three children: James, of St. Louis; H.W. Jeng, of St. Louis, Missouri; Albert, of St. Louis; and W.M. J. Wetherington, (1875-1916), who served as a teacher in St. Louis. In 1894 Mrs. W. J.
