The study looked at 4,000 smokers who had tried to quit smoking, and found only one, which was a woman who was at risk of severe lung disease or who was an early participant in an intensive care unit.

About half of all women who were involved smoked but never smoked. Only two of 4,000 people said that if they smoked again or they quit, they would be at risk for a lung disease response.

Researchers found no evidence that lung tissue was growing or growing worse if people who had tried to quit smoking did not receive extra lung transplantation.

The study is also of interest because it is an attempt to compare women who quit smoking with women who did not quit.
