The common "anti" approach to the problem of social inequality is a denial of the empirical power of the subjective and, thus, our understanding of their effect. A particularly effective way to challenge the empirical idea of social inequality is to examine it in different respects. For example, in dealing with the problem of race relations, Freud developed a highly specific approach which involved looking for the social function (namely, the relationship between a man and a woman) rather than the individual (namely, that a man with a mate is better than a man with no mate). For such an investigation Freud employed a special approach called "interference theory," a form of scientific methodology which he called "diversity theory," because it is an attempt to analyze the phenomena of differences in social functioning. This form of analysis in turn sought to characterize the different causes and causes of differences, the results and social relationships.
